My school experiences {contd. of Never ending stories}

Sir, now I am 52 years old,  like a cow which had grassed fully and laydown calm and chew once again the eaten food, I recollect some of the things and present before you, I request you to keep cool and clam and what is statedabove are 100% truth

I had finished my SSLC {11TH STANDARD} at Krishnagiri Boy's High School in the year 1974.  I had my studies from 9th standard, before that I hadthe chance of living at Kandili and had my study at Ijjathar Venkitappa naidu High School, Kejjal Naickenpatti, just one and a half kilometer away from Kandlili in the route of Tirupattur. Kandlili is just 10 to 15 kms, away from Tirupuattur in the route leading to Burgur-Krishnagiri.  Kandili is within the district of North Arcot..

I was broughtup by my aunty-uncile {atthaiyum-mamavum}.  They had a small hotel {veg.Brahmin}.Our hotel is inside the village and another one was in the road itself run by another one namely Sundaram Ayyar.In those days Kandili Arisi Murukku is famous, Sundaram Ayyar's brother, who were  half pant and banian only travel in the buses moving in the direction of Krishnagiri and back toTirupattur and sell the murukku in the bus itself.  Kandlili is having one Police Station and police quarters is also there.
In my young are we use to go and play in the grounds of police parade, in the garden in front of the police station.  Go and chat with the writer and even to request him to give us paper - plain white papers  a small piece for our writing and playing.

Outside the police station a huge well is there.  That was called as Policestation Kinaranu.  People residing nearby area always come and pull-out the water using rope and bucket. Just opposite our elementary school is situated.  It is on the firstfloor, on the ground floor few shops are there.  We have to claim atleast 25-30 steps to arrive our classes.  There one to five i.e. from lst standard to 5th standard classes are conducted.  We have got only one class for one standard, when I gone to 6th standard in the High school I become surprised to see 6th A, 6thB, 6thC and all other standards are having more class rooms.

In those days weekly market (santhai) was held near our hotel on Saturdays, latter the same has been moved near to Panchayat Union Office and Dharmaraja temple which has been situated on the main road leading to Krishnagiri.  In those days while the santhai is going on, my duty in the hotel was go give water to the people who came and askedfor, whether they are taking any of the things from our hotel or not.  I used to stood at if my memory is correct at9 a.m. I will pour water in the classes until 6 P.M.

Our hotel is known as PuthuAyyar Kadai since earlier I told you one Mr. Sundaram "Ayyar" had a first hotel in the roadside, in order to differntiate the shops ours is named as Puthuayyar's kadai.  Our shop (Tamil Nadu is under the rule of DMK by the then Chief Minister C.N.Annadurai {more popularly known as ANNA) had  introduced Masala Dosai, Horlicks, Pottatoo Bonda, Coffee with Sugar.  There are two types of  coffee is sold 1) Coffee with sugar cost 0.25Paise and 2) Coffee with Zera @ vellapagu (vellapagu means: jaggery is powdered and thesame is putinto a pot, water is poured on it to some extend which will be heated to a certain level, in the process it will be stairred by a spoon) will cost 0.20Paise.

When I am moving to 6th standard my high school was transferred to Kejjalnaickenpatti Ijjathat Venkittappa naidu High school.  Where I had my schooling upto 8th standard. The school has witnessed a dedicated Head Master Namely Mr. Ramamurthy (a marathibrahmin-in their house they used to spoke marathi (since we (Brahmin families) are very few, usedto visit all the houses on the occation of festivals that too in  time of Pongal, Diwali, Navarathri, Mahalalkshmi  virtham like that to give Vettalai-pakku (Betelnut and aericanut) to sumangalies.  I used to hold the hands of my aunty and go to their houses, when theyare performing poojas, we the children play outside the houses.

While all the Headmasters donot want to stay at the Kandili High School, since it is in remote, Mr. Ramamamurthy Head master want to serve hereonly.Whenever he transferred he opted to go back to Kandili.  When his days begin (Mr. Ramamurthy, H.M) only 6 class rooms was there high raised rooms with asbestos roof.  He used to call the rich persons and request them to built room as donation.  So many improvements are made by him.  His pleasing appeal will made even the kanjan to vallal.  One Mrs. Rajammal who got the house in the Krishnagiri Road  nearing to the Panchayat Union Office  is so  kanjucious, she will thick so many times to spend even a paisa but on the appeal of our beloved headmaster that lady built a overhead tank and lay pipeline for drinking water to the  pupil's use.  In order to generate funds our head master will screen films in the school, tickets sold to public in the sorrounding villages by the students, prize will also begiven to the students who sold highest no. of tickets.

Due to unknow reason our hotel business closed and our livelyhood become a big???.  Then my uncle moved to Krishagiri  and become a servant at VasaviCafe near rountana.  Before screeing to public the cinema students will have a special show, for which each of them have to pay 25 paise,  One of the such film shown isTHULABARAM. IF YOU HAPPEN TO SEEN THE MOVE you will automatically weep and cry, it will develop in you such a sorrow.  My story is much more.  In those days I am unable to get even 25p. for expenses per day.  I was summoned to pay a  cost of 25 paise for  viewing the the film at the school , this happened when i am studying 7th standard, I was unable to pay, my master (class teacher) took custody of my maths note and demanded unless 25p.paid and then only I get the note back.  I reported the matter in the home, this went to the ears of the headmaster via Mrs.headmaster, then my class teacher shouted why the matter gone upto the headmaster and gave back my note..
